Avoca, PA - A ribbon cutting ceremony was held today at the
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport for the New South General Aviation
This new apron is a 440’ x 300’ bituminous
concrete apron with approximately 300’ of taxi-lane connecting the apron to the
existing general aviation apron and Taxiway "A". On the landside, 1,100
linear feet of road has been constructed to the South of the apron to provide
access for vehicles.
With this newly constructed extension to Hangar
Road, the 400' of new hangar frontage provided with the project will be
build-ready, allowing for the addition of more than 60,000 sq. ft. of hangar
space. In addition, a second access to the General Aviation Area will be
provided once the Navy Way Road Extension is complete.
Construction work on the project was completed by Popple Construction of Laflin, PA.
This $6.4 million construction project was funded by the
Federal Aviation Administration ($4.9 million), the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton
International Airport's PFC Program ($1.4 million) and the Pennsylvania
Department of Transportation, Bureau of Aviation ($0.1 million).
URS Corporation, Hunt Valley, MD, provided
design services for the project. URS Corporation and Civil Design
Partners, Moscow, PA, provided construction inspection services.
