Avoca, PA - A ribbon cutting ceremony was held today at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport for the New South General Aviation Apron.

This new apron is a 440’ x 300’ bituminous concrete apron with approximately 300’ of taxi-lane connecting the apron to the existing general aviation apron and Taxiway "A".  On the landside, 1,100 linear feet of road has been constructed to the South of the apron to provide access for vehicles.

With this newly constructed extension to Hangar Road, the 400' of new hangar frontage provided with the project will be build-ready, allowing for the addition of more than 60,000 sq. ft. of hangar space.  In addition, a second access to the General Aviation Area will be provided once the Navy Way Road Extension is complete.

Construction work on the project was completed by Popple Construction of Laflin, PA. This $6.4 million construction project was funded by the Federal Aviation Administration ($4.9 million), the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport's PFC Program ($1.4 million) and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Bureau of Aviation ($0.1 million).

URS Corporation, Hunt Valley, MD, provided design services for the project.  URS Corporation and Civil Design Partners, Moscow, PA, provided construction inspection services.
