NEWS RELEASE
For Immediate Release September 17, 2009 Contact: Barry J. Centini, (570) 602-2000 Avoca, PA - AMR Corporation, the parent company of American Airlines and American Eagle, earlier today announced a series of actions that will better position it to meet the industry's near-term economic challenges while continuing to build on its foundation and strategy for long-term success. The American Airlines and American Eagle network restructuring primarily aims to eliminate unprofitable flying and to reallocate resources to hubs in Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago, Miami and New York. American's actions were greeted with support from numerous key officials who rely on American for their travel needs. Included in the restructuring is the addition of two daily flights from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport to Chicago O’Hare International Airport. Rep. Paul E. Kanjorski (D-PA) stated, "American Airlines decision to run flights between the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport and Chicago shows that our airport is not only beneficial to Northeastern Pennsylvania's residents and businesses, but it will also help connect Midwesterners to the Northeastern United States through our community. The reason I have always supported federal funding to improve the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport is because it is such a vital part of economic development in Northeastern Pennsylvania as demonstrated by American Airline's decision to utilize it. I wish American Airlines continued success as it develops this new route and others throughout the country." For more information, contact American Airlines online at www.aa.com.
