NEWS RELEASE
For Immediate Release July 08, 2008 Contact: Barry J. Centini, (570) 602-2000 Avoca, PA (July 8, 2008) - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport (AVP) today announced that Continental Airlines will begin new daily nonstop service between AVP and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) on Thursday, October 2, 2008. Continental will offer four flights daily and seats are now available for sale at www.continental.com. Continental's new Newark service will replace its daily Cleveland service and will reconnect Northeastern Pennsylvania with the New York City metropolitan area. With the new service to Newark, Continental will double their current schedule of daily flights. These flights will be operated by Continental Connection carrier CommutAir and will be flown using 37-seat Bombardier Q200 aircraft. "For both our business and leisure travelers, service through Newark provides better connectivity to destinations worldwide," stated Barry Centini, Airport Director. Currently, Continental's service in Newark will provide AVP travelers with 164 one-stop connections worldwide. "We are disappointed with the fact that we are losing nonstop Cleveland service," he added. "However, as airlines continue to announce flight and seat reductions, Continental is doubling their flights at AVP, as well as their seats, and Continental passengers gain an additional 80 destinations by connecting through Newark." Schedule of service between Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Newark effective October 2, 2008 is as follows:
