| AVP RUNWAY CONSTRUCTION UPDATE |
| Avoca, PA (September 5, 2007) - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport will continue it’s runway pavement construction project on its main 7,501 foot runway (designated as Runway 4/22). Runway 4/22 will close Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at approximately 11:30 PM, and reopen on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at approximately 11:30 PM. Runway 10/28 will remain OPEN during this construction phase.
The project, which will replace approximately three inches (3") of deteriorating runway pavement over the entire length of the runway, spans the period from August 7, 2007 to October 31, 2007. Barry Centini, Airport Director, says that flights from US Airways to Philadelphia and Continental Connection to Cleveland will run as scheduled. Delta Connection, Northwest Airlink and United Express have cancelled their flights during this period. The Airport urges passengers to check with the airlines regarding their flights. Certain regional jet flights from US Airways will be operating with different aircraft during the period the main runway is closed. No disruption to airline operations is scheduled to occur after September 11, 2007. In addition to the measures the airlines are taking to keep the flights operating, a temporary Air Traffic Control Tower will be brought in to accommodate the use of the Airport's second runway (designated as Runway 10/28). After the runway construction project is completed, the runway will have a completely new asphalt surface that should provide numerous years of continuous service to the airlines and other general aviation users of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport. |
